It brings together communities, businesses, government, health organizations, and other groups in an effort to promote women's health and its importance. It also empowers women to make their health a priority and encourages them to take the following five steps to improve their physical and mental health and lower their risks of certain diseases: Visit a health care professional to receive regular checkups and preventive screenings. Get active. Eat healthy. Pay attention to mental health, including getting enough sleep and managing stress. Avoid unhealthy behaviors, such as smoking, not wearing a seatbelt or bicycle helmet, and texting while driving. Keep coming back for more tips this week! womenshealth.gov

PBH out walking for NAMI this morning to fight the stigma of mental illness!! People can recover!!

Come walk with us this Saturday at 9:00am at Roeding Park. The walk is free and you can support NAMI Fresno as we walk with our team, led by Ms. Mandi Reed, who has designed amazing T-shirts for the walk. Mental illness affects everyone. Nearly 60 million Americans experience a mental health condition every year. Regardless of race, age, religion or economic status, mental illness impacts the lives of at least one in four adults and one in 10 children across the United States. People living with mental illness need help and hope: they need a community that supports them, their families and their recovery. Because mental illness devastates the lives of so many Americans, NAMI works every day to save every life. NAMI is the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. NAMI advocates for access to services, treatment, supports and research and is steadfast in its commitment to raise awareness and build a community for hope for all of those in need. NAMI is the foundation for hundreds of NAMI State Organizations, NAMI Affiliates and volunteer leaders who work in local communities across the country to raise awareness and provide essential and free education, advocacy and support group programs. May is National Foster Care Month, a month set aside to acknowledge foster parents, family members, volunteers, mentors, policymakers, child welfare professionals, and other members of the community who help children and youth in foster care find permanent homes and connections. The focus of this year's initiative is supporting youth in transition through creating meaningful connections, partnering with youth, advancing permanency options, and preparing youth for successful transitions to adulthood. During National Foster Care Month, we renew our commitment to ensuring a bright future for the more than 400,000 children and youth in foster care, and we celebrate all those who make a meaningful difference in their lives (childwelfare.org). This past Saturday, PBH, was honored as part of the agencies that have adopted parks in Fresno at a BBQ and Recognition Ceremony. Thanks to Ginger Joy who has helped run the program, keep the volunteers organized, and the Todd Beamer Park looking fantastic. Out of all the agencies attending (approximately 15) Promesa won the Most Distinguished Award, which means that we were the most consistent with paperwork, follow through, communication, and assisting with cleaning the park. Kudos to all the kiddos, staff, and team members that go out there every week to clean up the park and then get to enjoy playing in the Park!
